Painting in the UK, August 8th to 15th
This year we are offering our first UK based painting holiday.
My friend Emily, and her siblings, own a fabulous ‘country pile’ just outside Tiverton in Devon. It seems that country piles are surprisingly expensive to maintain, so, together, we are running a painting holiday to give it a hand.
I really can’t explain how enchanting Cove House is. I have been visiting since I was 14 and still find extraordinary things around each corner.
£1,000 – private room (inc. £200 deposit)
£700 – non painting partner

8th – 15th August
We have access to 5 large bedrooms at the front of the house, and further bedrooms as needed. The red room has an ensuite bathroom. Other bedrooms share 2 further bathroom. If an ensuite is essential there are other bedrooms available in the attics. Bedrooms are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

We will eat in the big farmhouse kitchen. Food will be catered by Emily, focusing on hearty local fayre. She grows most of the vegetables in her own kitchen garden.

We will be based in the ‘black room’, which makes an ample studio.

This general painting course will closely follow our other painting courses.
Artists are welcome to set their own agenda, and no part of the holiday is compulsory.
Days begin with a lesson/demonstration highlighting a particular aspect of painting, and incorporating exercises to help artists use the tools, free up the hand and to give confidence. The morning continues with free painting using the lessons learnt.
In the afternoon the artists can try out new media or continue with work started on previous days. We can also set up a longer painting which can be worked on at the same time each day so the light is the same(ish).

Mediums covered include watercolour, pastel, acrylic, oil and gouache. We If there is anything else you like to use, or would like to try, just let us know and I’ll get it in.
Excursion day – we spend the afternoon session out and about

On at least two days we will make excursions to Exmoor, Tiverton or Dulverton (all within 15 minute’s drive). Artists can either concentrate on swift sketches or work on larger pieces. The tutor is always be on hand to help explain the process of choosing a subject, finding a mood, and the techniques available.
We can relax in the casual grandeur of the Library (child not included)

We can go on day trips to Exmoor, Tiverton, Dulverton or just stay home to paint the local views or eccentric and dramatic interiors. All amongst the rolling Devon hills.
